Resources for Wilmington Area soccer Families
Starting youth soccer is exciting for both players and families. Whether your child is stepping onto the field for the very first time or moving up to a new age group, this guide will help you feel confident, prepared, and ready for a great season with Wilmington Area Soccer Club!
Age Groups
WASC offers programs for all skill levels and ages. Age groups are labeled as U6, U8, U10 and U12 and placement is determined by birth year.
-
U6 for example is for children under 6
-
Special requests to play up or down will be considered but are not guaranteed. They must be emailed to the board president for approval.
Registration
-
We offer programs in both the Spring and Fall. Registration for the Spring season generally opens at the beginning of January and July for the Fall season. While registration is open for about 6 weeks, we recommend registering early to ensure your child's spot.
-
If you're new to WASC, when you go to register, you'll be prompted to create a Sports Connect account. You'll then need to add a "player" for each child you want to register

Communication
Game Changer is how parents will communicate with coaches and other parents. Here, you will RSVP for practice, see the game schedule, follow the score, stream the games. You can also link with family and friends who want to follow along!
-
Download the Game Changer app here and your coach will send you a link to join your team.
Practices
Here are the basic items most players need for practices:
-
Shin guards and cleats (required for all programs except Puppy Pound)
-
Soccer ball (optional, but great to have at home for extra practice)
-
Size 3: U6–U8
-
Size 4: U10–U12
-
Size 5: U13+
-
-
Water bottle (make sure you pack extra for hot days)
-
Weather-appropriate gear
-
It's always a good idea to label all items with your child's name.
-
The practice schedule is at the discretion of your coach and will be posted in Game Changer.

Game Day
First and foremost, check out the information in Game Changer. Please note that Travel games are scheduled by PA West and may not be available until a week before the first game. Games are also scheduled 4 at a time to allow for flexibility in team matchups during the second half of the season.
-
Make sure to RSVP so your coach has an accurate count
-
Check the game time AND the arrive by time. (Coaches typically ask players to arrive 15-30 mins early to warm up.)
-
Check to see which jersey your child should wear. (It's always a good idea to bring both in case there is a last minute change.)
Make sure your child has the proper uniform or they will not be able to play. The referee will check all players before the game starts.
-
In addition to their jersey, Travel players must have navy shorts and socks.
-
Shin guards and cleats are always required.
-
Players cannot wear any jewelry (including studs for recently pierced ears)
Sideline Expectations
We encourage a supportive environment for every player on the field.
Please DO:
-
Cheer for effort and teamwork
-
Celebrate all players, not just your own
-
Encourage sportsmanship
Please DON’T:
-
Coach from the sidelines
-
Criticize referees or players on either team
-
Compare your child to others
Remember—kids develop at different speeds. Growth comes with time and practice.
Weather And Cancellations
-
Games and practices are cancelled only if lightening is present. We play in the rain!
-
If weather changes suddenly, we will notify you as quickly as possible.
-
When in doubt, check Game Changer before heading to the field.
